What To Expect

Puppy Training

We tailor our board and train programs to prevent separation anxiety, teach foundational obedience and set your puppy up for success as young adults. You should expect a 4 week commitment (at minimum) for your pup to gain the skills and mindset it needs to thrive.

Teaching Foundational Skills To A Puppy

Puppy Training Basics

It is very important to train your puppy the crucial foundation skills needed to become a calm and well-mannered adult. Your puppy should learn multiple commands and become comfortable in a variety of environments. An extremely important element is socialization with other dogs and new humans to help create healthy social skills.

When To Start Puppy Training

Generally, a puppy is ready to enter training programs at 10 weeks of age. At this time, the earlier the better to help create the proper foundational mindset. Proper training at a young age will help ensure less destructive behaviour and a calmer demeanour.

What Can A Puppy Learn

A puppy is in its development stage and is learning behaviour that can become ingrained. Setting the tone and guiding its development is critical. As your pup enters its teenage years, the below (at minimum) should have been established.

  • To refrain from nipping and gnawing
  • Barking to demand food, toys, attention, etc.
  • Pawing at furniture, doors, etc.
  • Mouthing in a playful manner as this may lead to serious consequences in the future
  • Staying calm in his/her crate
  • Pulling on leash when walking

Commands & Activities

  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay in place
  • Recalls
  • Loose leash walking
  • Treadmill training
  • Thresholds (waiting at doorways)

Puppy Training Success Stories

Happy Puppies, Happy Families

At iTK9 we pride ourselves on our past client success stories and love our community. Every story is different and requires its own approach.
Golden Retriever Running Towards Camera
Miller who was 5 months old had become fearful of other people/dogs, was very nervous in new situations, started to guard and hard to control. I was blown away by the service iTrainK9 gives to their clients. We now have had Miller back for almost a week and he is a different dog. Thank you so much Jason!

Sheena M
Jason and Meghan were both amazing with our very strong willed puppy. They educated us on how to continue with training, and were very supportive once we got our dog home. Worth the investment!
